BANGKOK, Thailand— Kao Mongkol Group was recognized in the UN Women 2022 Thailand WEPs Awards, winning the [2nd runner-up] prize in the Gender-Inclusive Workplace Category in ceremonies held on November 4.
“At Kao Mongkol Group, we encourage, promote and
empower women and diverse gender roles not just in
senior management positions but at all levels of the
organization. An inclusive workplace environment
offers employees with wider perspectives when
tackling business challenges and identifying new
opportunities which is essential for long term
sustainable growth.”
Dr. Cherdphan Sukonpongpao,
CEO, Kao Mongkol Group Company Limited
The WEPs Awards were initiated by UN Women through the European Union-funded We EmpowerAsia programme. While the programme itself came to a close earlier this year, UN Women continues to organize the Thailand WEPs Awards in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australian Government, the International Federation of Business and Professional Women, the Federation of Thai Capital Market Organization, the Global Compact Network Thailand, the Federation of Thai SME Association, and the Thai E-Commerce Association.
The Awards recognized outstanding efforts to promote gender equality in the private sector under six categories: Leadership Commitment, Gender-Inclusive Workplace, Gender-Responsive Marketplace, Community Engagement and Partnerships, Transparency and Reporting, and Youth Leadership. This year, three SME Awards were also given to small and medium-sized enterprises.
The Gender-Inclusive Workplace category recognized companies with proven gender-inclusive measures in the workplace including equal recruitment and pay, responsiveness to needs of employees of all genders, initiatives that support employees’ family responsibilities and promote equal care, and programs that advance women’s career development and leadership to ensure equal opportunities for employees of all genders.
The Awards place a spotlight on companies and leaders behind initiatives and practices that advance gender inclusivity and women’s empowerment in the business sector through the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs). Today, over 7,000 companies from around the world have signed up to show their commitment to foster business practices that promote gender equality and women’s empowerment through the WEPs, including more than 1,800 from Asia-Pacific. Kao Mongkol Group Company is also now a WEPs signatory.
